Small adult groups (fewer than 10 people) are welcome to come and look round the gallery free of charge, although to ensure a pleasant visit for you and others we ask that you book first to check that there will be no other groups in the gallery at the same time.

The following options for groups of any size up to a maximum of 20 (see note re. larger groups below) are also available:

A limited number of private guided evening tours of the gallery by Lucy Quinnell or another member of Fire and Iron staff are available each year, and cost £200 incl. VAT each (allow 1.5 - 2 hours), with a complimentary drink for each guest.

A guided tour of ‘Rowhurst’, the private historic house (c.1346) opposite the gallery, costs £150 incl. VAT (allow at least 1 hour). Visitors to Rowhurst can look round the gallery before or after the house tour free of charge.

An extended tour of Rowhurst with tea, coffee and biscuits, costs £200 incl. VAT (allow 1.5 – 2 hours). (Sandwiches / cake available at extra cost).

A combined Fire & Iron Gallery and Rowhurst guided tour with a complimentary drink costs £250 incl. VAT (a £100 saving on these booked separately) (allow 2.5 - 3 hours)

A 30-minute blacksmithing demonstration in the Fire and Iron arena (outdoor but under cover with bench seating  – wear warm, unimportant clothing) costs £150 plus VAT, and consists of a simple, “get it hot and hit it!” demo (a leaf might be made, for example). A one hour demonstration showing the seven basic processes of blacksmithing is available at £200 plus VAT. Guest-demonstrator events can be booked, illustrating specialist techniques; these are carefully planned in advance in collaboration with the group organiser, and can cost several hundred pounds. Safety googles are provided for each visitor.

Sketching sessions in the garden are popular in good weather; art groups are welcome to visit the garden but must book in advance. A charge of £5 (including VAT) per head is made for groups of 10 or more, including tea, coffee, soft drinks and biscuits. No charge is made if bad weather spoils play! Please note that the house and garden are privately owned and that we ask visitors to respect the privacy of the owners and take all litter home with them. Dogs (except guide dogs) are not permitted.

Please note that our maximum group size on each guided tour is 20 people. Larger groups have been accommodated by splitting into 2 smaller groups and booking 2 demonstrations, 2 tours, etc. (NB all priced separately, so 2 demonstrations would cost £300 plus VAT [30 minute demo] / £400 plus VAT [1 hour demo], and so on…), swapping over so that there are no more than 20 using each facility at one time. We do try to be as flexible as possible - speak to us about your requirements, and we will do our best to help you.

Any children within a party must be accompanied and adequately supervised and they are the responsibility of their parents or carers at all times. Please ensure that all group members consider potential dangers prior to their visit (sharp, heavy objects and machinery, ponds, uneven pathways and steps / beams of old buildings in particular). Risk-assessment is often carried out by group organisers prior to their visits, and we encourage and will happily assist with this.

The gallery is open Wednesday-Saturday 11am–5pm and is located just 300 metres off junction 9 eastbound of the M25, signposted with brown and white signs from the A244. There is a map on our website, and public transport details are also given.

Limited wheelchair access to the Fire & Iron Gallery building is available by arrangement, but we do not yet have toilet facilities for wheelchair users. Rowhurst house has only limited wheelchair access to the ground floor and it is a historic Listed Building. Digital images of the upstairs of the house are available for those who cannot use the stairs. We are following a programme of accessibility improvements, so please do visit this page again for updates regarding progress.

A toilet without wheelchair access is available to visitors.
